GWSC ‘Intermediate Boys’ Badminton Team – ‘SSV’ STATE CHAMPIONS
Kudos to our GWSC ‘Intermediate Boys’ Badminton Team who won the 2025 ‘School Sport Victoria’ Intermediate Badminton Championships at MSAC Stadiums on Wednesday the 13th of August. This is amazingly their fourth State Championship for Badminton in succession!
Needless to say, our ‘Intermediate Boys’ Badminton team has gears, a whole lot of power and speed to burn. Mix this in with a plethora of players with past experiences at both national and international level and you have a very imposing team. This is possibly the hardest sports team at GWSC to be selected for, such is the depth of badminton talent brimming amongst the boys in this age group. Our superb six of Jamie Zhu (10), Nicholas Ung (10), Ashton Aw (10), Ivan Liang (7), Raghav Ananthanathan (10) and Zixuan Rao (10) are not only a very talented team but also a very driven group of young men individually and collectively.
They didn’t drop a single game all day in either their singles or doubles encounters against Maribyrnong Sports Academy, Sale College, Melbourne High School or Greater Shepparton Secondary College on their way to winning the 2025 ‘SSV’ ‘Intermediate Boys’ Badminton State Championship. Incredibly, this is the fourth ‘SSV’ State Title in a row for this group, after coming together in Year 7 and winning the silky blue banner every year they have come back to MSAC since for the State Badminton Championships. This is a true Glenny sporting dynasty, which we hope continues dominating the competition for the next two years to become the first school team to win every State Championship from Years 7 to 12. We can’t wait to watch history unfold as this team continues to improve and reach its true potential over the coming two years.
