Year 7 & 8
In Years 7 & 8, students start to explore their concept of work and what a career might look like. They will undertake a range of activities in both their Living and Learning classes and normal subjects that will expose then to asking questions about what they see their future looking like.
Year 9
In Year 9, all of the students will undertake a range of activities to help them better prepare for the ever changing world of work. The main activities are:
Completion of the Morrisby Career Profile in early term 2 and having a one on one interview with an external Career Professional unpacking the results of the Morrisby profile. During this interview, parents are more than welcome to participate. This interview will be completed in term 3 to help the students make informed subject choices for their VCE.
Work Experience preparation and Tax Education Program
Students participate in a Tax Education seminar as part of the Year 10 Orientation Program which takes place at the end of Year 9. The Australian Taxation Office provides schools with educational resources to help educate students in a range of important tax issues related to living in Australian society.
Secondary students will need a tax file number (TFN) to apply for youth allowance through Centrelink, for part-time and holiday employment and for opening bank investment accounts. Students will also need a tax file number when they move onto tertiary study and enrol in a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) (government subsidised) at university or TAFE.
Students will also take part in various seminars to help them find a meaningful Work Experience placement when they are in Year 10.
