GWSC ‘Senior Girls’ Table Tennis Team – ‘SSV’ STATE CHAMPIONS!
Bravo to our GWSC ‘Senior Girls’ Table Tennis Team who took home gold at the 2025 ‘School Sport Victoria’ Senior Table Tennis Championships on Wednesday the 13th of August. This is incredibly the fourth year in a row that this talented group of young sportswomen have secured the State Title!
Our ‘Senior Girls’ Table Tennis team continually set themselves apart from fellow competitors through the use of creative game plans and unconventional styles of play, that often surprise their opponents and keep them guessing where each shot will land on the table during every stage of their games. The crowds always swell around the top tables at MSAC when Yuhan Li (12), Carly Jiang (12), Yashvi Shah (11), Prabhani Wijetunge (11), Chloe Chen (11) and Natalie Trinh (11) begin their warm-up for States. It’s as if the ball is a blur, as they begin to loop it over the net and rally in rhythm at super speed.
Our ‘Senior Girls’ easily accounted for Montmorency Secondary College and Suzanne Cory High School, but went down to The Mac.Robertson Girls High School in their final pool match to finish second in their group. This set-up a super second semi-final against Nossal High School, who proved no match for our #PongStrong brigade, who progressed to the grand final with a convincing 6-0 victory. The stage was now set for an epic contest between our GWSC ‘Senior Girls’ Table Tennis team and their rivals from Mac.Rob.
The singles contests could not split the two teams, with both winning 2 matches each, meaning the two doubles encounters would decide the state championship. Both of our GWSC pairings produced phenomenal performances to win both doubles contests in convincing fashion, delivering our ‘Senior Girls’ Table Tennis team a well-deserved victory! This was the fourth State Championship win in a row for this tenacious team, who have consistently found a way to secure back-to-back-to-back-to-back ‘SSV’ State Titles!
We would also like to recognise and show our appreciation to the following student coaches, alumni coaches and staff coaches who helped guide and support our GWSC ‘Senior Girls’ Table Tennis Teams during their training program and ‘SSV’ competitions throughout Terms 2 & 3 this year – Ariel Li (7), Chloe Yu (8), Queenie Su (9), Fei Fei Du (9), Alexander Zhao (9), Mr Nicholas Lum (Alumni Coach), Mr Adam Zhu (Alumni Coach), Mr Mitchell van Dijk (Staff Coach), Mr Shaun Tyquin (Staff Coach), Mr Ben Crossett (Staff Coach) and Mr Mark Robinson (Staff Coach).
